Page 3 of 3 Day 18-19 TSETSERLEG – ÖNGIIN KHIID – MANDALGOVI (DUNDGOBI PROVINCE)
From Tsetserleg your driver will bring you southward, far in the Gobi Desert. This 2-day drive will give you the freedom to explore a great part of Mongolia, from the green grasslands of the Centre to the sand dunes of the South… You’ll sleep halfway at Öngiin Khiid in a ger camp, a complex on the banks of the river Őngiin, consisting of the two ruined monasteries of Barlim and Khutagt, restored in 2004 by a small group of monks. The next day you’ll head off to the capital city of the Central Gobi Province, where you’ll spend the night in a typical Mongolian hotel. You’ll enjoy a resting time, visit the market, and maybe hang out in some local bar to talk with local people… Day 20 UUSH SAND DUNES 4-DAY 3-NIGHT EXPEDITION (DUNDGOBI PROVINCE)
From Mandalgovi you will make your way to Gurvansaikhan where you can stretch your legs and visit the local Monastery. If you are lucky you may get sent out with their blessings! Difficulty of trip: moderately challenging. Route's method of travel: Jeep expedition from Tsetserleg to Mandalgovi and then from Mandalgovi to the Sand Dunes with some camel riding and camping with local nomads at the location.
Spend the afternoon in Gurvansaikhan village with locals: After your breakfast you will go around the caves and meet famous long singer Mrs.Norovbanzad’s monument by trekking along with him. On the way you will see the local “Ovoo” (stone mound of shamanistic culture, it believes that local deities listens to the people’s wishes and fulfills them) and put small stones or go out for a short trek. Around 11 a.m. local driver will pick you up and drive to Gurvansaihan soum for 30kms. Upon arrive at Mr. Huderchuluun’s ger you will welcome the sight of a nomadic lunch and tea. Then Ms.Erdenebileg will introduce and guide you to her native village. In the evening you will have the opportunity to play volleyball, “teveg” (traditional hacky sack kicking game), ankle bone game which is called Shagai in Mongolian. You can also use other paid services like hot shower, telephone and medical shop etc. Dinner will be served with the family. Day 24 ULAANBAATAR Newly built residential estates now litter the suburbs, side by side with gers – the traditional Mongolian dwelling – which crawl up onto the mountains surrounding the city. Day off. Resting time. What if you went to the Black Market to buy some local souvenirs for your family and friends for instance? Or have a glance at the ger districts, one of the distinct features of this half nomadic capital? Overnight in Mongolian Resorts Guesthouse.
