Situated on the banks of the Orkhon rive, Kharakhorum is the most important cultural and religious site in Mongolia. It was chosen in 1220 as the site of the capital of the great Mongolian Empire by Genghis Khan and later moved by his grandson, Kublai Khan. Sadly today little remains of what was once a great city but some religious sites such as the grand site of Erdene Zuu which was Mongolia's largest and grandest monastery.

Day 1
Ulaanbaatar
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, the capital
of Mongolia. You'll be greeted at the airport and escorted to your hotel.
After lunch take a half-day city tour including a visit to the Bogd Khaan
Winter Palace Museum, one of the first museums in Mongolia. Zaisan Hill War Memorial to get your bearings with a
panoramic view of the whole city. Overnight in the hotel. (L+D)
Day 2
Elsen
Tasarhai Sand Dune
Drive to Elsen Tasarkhai sand dune, a unique
area combining forest, Gobi sand dunes and rocky mountains. Excursion to
Hugnu Khaan Mountain and sand dune on the steppe. Free time for hiking and
walking in the near. Stay overnight in ger camp. (B+ L+ D)
Day3
Ruins of
12th Century Capital City Karakorum
Drive to Karakorum was part of the
Silk Road. The Silk Road , the main road of commercial and cultural exchange
connecting the East and West was kept, protected and controlled by the
Mongolian Empire. So the Karakorum played an important role in the
development of international relations. Visit the oldest Monastery Erdene Zuu
built in 1586, with 108 stupas. Look around little town Karakorum and see
historical tower on the hill. Optional horse riding is available in the

Day4
Khustai Nuruu National Park
Khustai Nuruu Nature Reserve - was established in 1993 to preserve
Mongolia's wild Takhi horses and the steppe environment in which they live.
The Takhi is probably the most recognized and successful symbol of Mongolia's
diverse and unique wildlife. Also known as Przewalski's horse (named after
the Pole who first took an interest in them), the Takhi used to roam the
countryside in great herds.

Day5
Ulaanbaatar.
Drive to Ulaanbaatar. After lunch at the restaurant in UB visit thethe National history museum and do shopping
for cashmere and souvenir. In the
evening enjoy a performance of Mongolian folk art. Stay overnight in hotel.

Depart from Ulaanbaatar in the
