Hovsgol's Shaman Tour

khovskol-nuur-national-park_in_mongolia Northern Mongolia is still home to the ancient nature-religion of Shamanism. Shamanism involves the worship of nature spirits through the medium of a shaman, a type of trance medium. The shaman beats a drum whilst wearing a ritual costume and goes into a trance-state, whereby the spirits of the region are induced to look favourably on human endeavour, so often threatened in this sometimes harsh and wild land. Shamanism is now a rare phenomena, but we can arange to see a performance if booked well in advance.

Hosvgol Lake is often described as Baikal's smaller sister. It is one of the worlds largest reserves of fresh water situated in the north of Mongolia near the border with Siberia. Hosvgol, with its distinct fauna and flora is unique in the world. It harbours large reserves of reindeers along the shores of the lake and is a favourite location for the citizen's of Ulaanbaatar to relax in while indulging in some sailing and swimming in the lake. Hosvgol lake is also the home of the shammans, one of the worlds oldest religions, integral to Mongolian culture.
